FIGHTING FOR CHANGE @ 9th 10×10 Angel Torres DARKNESS BREATHES LIGHT LatinX > NEXT SHOW October 15 Osgoode Hall!
HELLO FRIENDS!
With Thanksgiving almost upon us, photographer Angel Torres & creative consultant Brian Torner wish to express their deepest gratitude to so many individuals:

THANKSGIVING
James Fowler – Founder and Curator of The 10×10 Photography Project for the kind invitation to Angel Torres as participant photographer in the 9th annual edition. As well as a book launch including each photographer’s 10 portraits, Fowler has created one of the world’s largest LGBTQ archives of photographers and other artists!

All Latin X Participant Artists – Families and friends, who were part of the portfolio Darkness Breathes Light on the subject of gun violence.

Gladstone Hotel Staff – From June 20 to August 18, daily 12 – 5 pm. Patrons were greeted by helpful, knowledgeable friendly staff at all hours!

Dedication – Angel Torres’ sister who agreed to allow photographer to dedicate this body of work to her son Patrick — a fatal victim of gun violence right here in the GTA several years back.

Akasha Art Projects – Great testimonial and exceptional quality printing with archival papers from Germany and custom made frames from Spain.  “Angel Torres’ gripping series highlighting gun violence goes above and beyond portraiture. Printed and framed in house this rich series is cinematic, captivating and a daring addition to 10X10.  Learn more about Angel’s moving series here…”

Betty Ann Jordan – ArtInSite.com – Acclaimed Toronto arts journalist – for an exceptional review and recognizing Torres’ portfolio in her insightful critique and proclaiming:  “In the journey of healing and renewal, no change will come about without the unwavering emotionally-charged efforts of the larger community. As we as a society collectively seek solidarity and a way forward in this weaponized time of crisis, artists such as Angel Torres are leaders in the charge.”  For the full review: BETTY ANN JORDAN REVIEW

Torres’ process yielded creative, elegant, and authentic expressions of each participant artist, so it is no surprise that each of the 10×10 individual portraiture submissions is so unique and distinct as each artist brought their own personal experiences to the creation of their portrait. Communicating ideas with each other, the artists and Torres came to a profound cohesive collaborative storyline to then realize before the camera. Thus, for all the hard work, planning, and TLC everyone contributed, we would really love everyone to have possession of their portrait, so we have put together a most favourable incentive program for everyone outlined below..

IN THE NEWS
The subject of gun violence has indeed become a polarizing global crisis ! Remarkably, as if by divine intervention responding to our ‘ban guns’ message, current federal election campaigns promise positive changes in legislation, moving toward elimination, reduction and stricter gun control laws throughout Canada!

The summer months saw the Darkness Breathes Light portfolio travel in part to the Mississauga Latin Festival, where Angel Torres & Brian Torner proudly showed the three separate portfolio works created in the last year alone and has garnered several radio and one online video interview from excited media networks!

It’s exciting to share that there’s substantial interest in Darkness Breathes Light and institutions calling for Torres’ work as a travelling exhibition:
> Colombian Consulate
> Law Society of Ontario – Hispanic Heritage Month – Osgoode Hall, booked exhibit on October 15, 2019
> Nicole Hamilton Producer at CIUT-FM Radio, upcoming interview in Nov-Dec.
